Amanda Ortiz, LVN, has been with Pediatric Rheumatology Consultants since the beginning. We’re talking from day one. She’s a member of our excellent nursing team who supports Dr. Ruy Carrasco and cares for the young patients and their families who make frequent visits to our clinic and infusion centers.
We could not do what we do without her.
Here is a quick Q&A with Amanda to get to know her better:
What is your role at PRC? How long have you been with the practice? What do you love about the practice?
I am an LVN at PRC. I’ve been with the practice since day one. I love the relationships I’ve been able to build with the other staff members here. I am proud that our practice setting provides a nurturing environment to families the minute they walk in the door.
What inspired you to go into nursing?
I have been a caretaker all my life, and I grew up with a firm understanding of how important family is. As I became aware that many people didn’t have that same type of family environment that I did, I knew from an early age I wanted to provide love and support to all people. Nursing is that outlet for me.
Why do you like working with kids? What tricks do you have up your sleeve for making their time less scary/more comfortable when coming to the doctor?
Pediatrics is a fun and challenging healthcare group. Not only do you treat the child, but you also care for the family unit. The silliness of children reminds me to enjoy life. Every child is different, their conditions are different, and so they challenge me to embrace all of it!
When I meet with kiddos, I am always truthful and address how they feel first. Once I know where they are in terms of their mental state and why, then I can come in with kindness and sincerity to validate their feelings while informing them of what they can expect.
Tell us something interesting about yourself–family, favorite hobby, exciting travels, hidden talents, etc.?
I am a writer and a poet. Writing is therapy for me whether it’s a good day or bad. I’m working on a little something at the moment–so you’ll have to stay tuned!
My favorite hobbies are writing, working on my vision board, and being outside. There’s nothing better than being outside around nature. It’s calming, adventurous, and there’s always something different! I love running and walking trails. In terms of travel, I am currently pursuing a mission trip to India or Africa in the near future.
Hidden talents? I’m not sure. But, I am a good listener and encourager if that counts
We think that definitely counts.
Thank you for your passion, and compassion, Amanda, put towards all that you do! You make our world here at PRC a much brighter place!
